School Marshal Program

School Marshals are specially trained school personnel authorized to carry concealed firearms on campus to protect students and staff in the event of an emergency. Established through HB 1009 in 2013, the program allows designated staff members — often teachers or administrators — to act only in active shooter or life-threatening situations before law enforcement arrives. Marshals undergo extensive training in crisis response, firearms use, and de-escalation techniques to enhance campus safety.
