Install, maintain and repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures. This high-demand
occupation awaits you. Collin College's program utilizes the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum. Students completing the electrical program will have the option to take
the State of Texas Residential Wireman exam and will earn up to 414 on-the-job hours
towards their State of Texas Journeyman's and Master's licensure requirements.
What Do Electricians Do?
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures based on job specifications and National Electrical Code
- Terminate conductors to circuit breakers, switches, receptacles, lighting fixtures and other electrical devices.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits using ohmmeters, voltmeters, or megohmmeter
- Inspect electrical systems or equipment to identify hazards, defects, or compliance with codes
- Diagnose and repair malfunctioning electrical systems
What Kind of Skills & Abilities Do I Need to be an Electrician?
- Troubleshoot complex electrical systems
- Install and repair electrical systems
- Test electrical system using testing instruments to determine issues
- Ability to use power and electrical hand tools
