Cybersecurity Degree and Certification Options

College Credit Programs in Cybersecurity

Program Options:

You can earn multiple certificates that can 'stack' while you work on completing your Associate or Bachelor degrees. Credentials are in order of credit hour requirements.


Certificate Level 1 – Cybersecurity Infrastructure Technician
*entry level stackable certificate which can lead into the AAS degree or CISSP certificate

Certificate Level 1 – CISSP Information Systems Cybersecurity Professional

*stackable certificate that can be a stand alone credential or move into the AAS degree (for students who have industry experience and are interested in preparing for the CISSP exam)

Certificate Level 1 – Information Systems Cybersecurity
*stackable certificate that leads directly into the AAS degree

AAS – Information Systems Cybersecurity
*two year degree that is required before BAT admissions

BAT – Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity
*must hold a AAS in cybersecurity before applying for the final two years

Course Information and Availability:

  3. Looking for an online AAS program? The two year AAS degree offers 17/20 classes online and three require in person attendance (CPMT 1305, ITCC 1314, and ITCC 1344).
  4. Looking for an online BAT program? 10/11 upper level CYBR classes are in person only at the Frisco campus. We hope to expand online offerings in the future.
  5. All IT/Cyber classes generally run during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. The exception: ITSY 2572 CISSP runs during the spring semester only.
  6. Students with a criminal history background need to consider that many cybersecurity employers may require an evaluation of their criminal history as a part of the application and employment process.
    Some specialty areas that may not hire individuals with a criminal history are digital forensics, ethical hacking, etc.

National Center of Academic Excellence
The National Security Agency (NSA) designated Collin College as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education for its Associate of Applied Sciences Cybersecurity program. The Bachelor in Applied Technology is currently pending review as it is a newer degree to the college.
