Annual Collin Jazz Festival Moves to Wylie Campus

Jazz fans are invited to attend the annual Collin Jazz Festival, featuring world-renowned jazz saxophonist Jeff Antoniuk, Friday-Saturday, March 28-29, at Collin College’s Wylie Campus. Admission is free and all events are open to the public.

Established in 1993, the Collin Jazz Festival features performances by middle school and high school jazz bands from across the region and evening concerts featuring Collin College jazz students and faculty. Each participating ensemble will receive an onstage clinic with one of the festival's adjudicators immediately following their performance. Participating school ensembles will perform from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on March 29 in performance spaces across the Wylie Campus.

Evening concerts featuring Antoniukare planned at 7 p.m. on March 28and 29in the Wylie Campus Conference Center. Antoniukwill perform with the Collin Faculty Jazz Combo on March 28, after an opening performance by the student group Collin Combo PM. Antoniuk will perform with the Collin Jazz Lab Band on March 29. Student group Combo Too will open that concert. Hewill also host a masterclass from Noon-1 p.m. on March 29in the conference center.

A native of Edmonton, Canada, Antoniuk has made “creating and expanding community” the mission of his three-decade career. Antoniuk studied at University of North Texas, has served as an artistic director for more than 50 jazz-specific workshops and has conducted more than 2,500 masterclasses. Antoniuk has played with and led bands with saxophonists Ralph Bowen and Walt Weiskopf, guitarists Tim Miller and Steve Rochiniski, drummers Sherrie Maricle and Warren Wolf, bassists Jimmy Haslip and Marcus Miller, and trumpet players Tim Hagans and Ingrid Jensen.
