Payment Procedures for Chapter 33

Payment procedures for Chapter 33 (Post 9/11 GI BILL®) Veteran students:

  • Students must have applied to the VA for veterans education benefits and received a VA Certificate of Eligibility ( VACOE) verifying their eligibility to receive benefits. We will also accept a print-out of the eBenefits screen showing you are eligible for Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits as long as it also indicates the percentage.

  • The VACOE will indicate the percentage of benefits that will be provided. Percentages are based on the student's length of service.

  • Once submitted to the VeteransServicesOffice at Collin, a copy of the VACOE is maintained in the student's file.

Holding Your Classes

  • Students must present a copy of the VACOE (or the electronic print-out) to the Veterans Services Office prior to the payment deadline.

**Students will only be responsible for paying their portion of the tuition and fees if their percentage of benefits is less than 100%. (For example, a student who is eligible for 70% benefits will only be required to pay 30% of the tuition and fees at that time.)

  • Each semester thereafter, the student must submit the Chapter 33 Eligibility Form to the Veterans Resource Center or email VRC@collin.edu.

  • Note: If the VA Advisor at Collin cannot certify one or more of your classes, you will be responsible for paying 100% of those classes via your own resources

Enrollment Verification

Beginning December 17, 2021, students using their Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits will be equired to verify their enrollment at the end of each month. Failure to verify for two consecutive months will impact their Monthly Housing Allowance. Students are encouraged to sign up for the convenient and simple text message verification option with the VA.

After the published last day to withdraw the VA Advisors will verify your current enrollment by sending an amendment to your current semesters certification. Do not be alarmed this is the new VA process.

How to Verify Enrollment with the VA

To verify your enrollment, you will be able to use text messages as a simple, quick option.

Contact the Education Call Center (ECC) at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) to ensure VA has your mobile phone number.

Once you opt-in, you can simply reply to a VA text message to verify enrollment monthly.

If you do not wish to use text messages, you can call 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) and verify your enrollment by telephone each month, once it is required.

Get in touch with the Veterans Services Office at (972) 881-5760 option #5 or email vrc@collin.edu. Or visit a nearby Veterans Resource Center for assistance
