Collin College Receives Fourth Gold-Level Veterans Award

The Texas Veterans Commission has honored Collin College with gold-level status for the fourth year in a row under its Veterans Education Excellence Recognition Award (VEERA) program. The college has received the award every year since 2021.

The VEERA recognizes colleges and universities that exemplify excellence in education and related services that contribute to the success of veteran and military-connected students. The Texas Veterans Commission’s practice of awarding gold-, silver-, and bronze-level statuses signifies the depth and breadth of the services provided.

More than 1,300veterans and military-connected students were enrolled in Collin College classes in Spring 2024.

“Collin College works diligently to ensure our student veterans and their loved ones have the best educations and student services possible to help them succeed,”said Dr. Abe Johnson, senior vice president of campus operations. “This recognition by the Texas Veterans Commission and the success of our students are proof that we are making differences in people’s lives. We are extremely thankful for the recognition.”

The college has several Veterans Resource Centers (VRCs) designed to connect students with resources, ensure a smooth transition into college, and foster academic success. Information on financial aid, Veterans Affairs education benefits, personal counseling, and membership in the Student Veterans of America is available through the college’s VRCs. Collin Collegeserves more than 58,000 credit and continuing education students annually and offers more than 200 degrees and certificates, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Cybersecurity, a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Construction Management, and a new Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Clinical Operations Management. The only public college based in Collin County, Collin College is a partner to business, government, and industry, providing customized training and workforce development.
